Lancaster catches a gust of wind that leaps him up and over the creature. The animal is taken completely by surprise, and it tries to adjust by turning to face him. It's too slow, and Lancaster uses the moment to make his attack. Revving the thruster, he bumps downward knocking the creature off balance. Lancaster twists in the air, then slams down on the creature again. This time he hits it hard enough that the animal stumbles in the air, its wings folding inward. Lancaster swings over to one of the leathery wings and runs his thruster against it. The intense heat causes the creature to yank its wing inward, and it loses its lift.
Injured, and unable to fly, the creature tumbles downward and Lancaster loses sight of it in the clouds.
He drifts down into the cloud cover, then through the thick fog until he finds the soft, mossy ground. He looks around and sees dark shapes through the fog. In one direction he can make out the walls of buildings. In another, thin lines and stringy vines imply a forest. It is in this direction that the creature had fallen.
Which should Lancaster do?
